Planting in June – A stroll through our Nursery is like a walk through a botanical garden. With a beautiful selection of annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees, you’re sure to find exactly what you need—and more. We also offer hanging baskets and ready-made planters for patios, decks, and pool areas. Our expanded selection of native plants and Proven Winners perennials, shrubs, and trees is especially impressive. June is an ideal time to add color and texture to your landscape and gardens. Stop by and share your vision for your yard. To help us guide you, be ready to discuss sun exposure throughout the day, bring photos, or know the dimensions of the area you want to plant. Most importantly, give your new plants the best start with Espoma Organic Bio-tone Starter Plus, a premium starter plant food made with natural and organic ingredients and enhanced with beneficial microbes, humates, and mycorrhizae to support root growth and establishment. It’s what we use for every plant and planter we pot—and it makes a real difference.
Fertilizing Annuals – Annuals achieve their goal of beautifying our landscapes and planters with immense color and season long bloom time. Because they complete their lifecycle in a single growing season, gracing our gardens with color from spring through early fall, they need to be fed to keep them healthy and happy. From the day annuals are planted through the peak of their blooming period, we highly recommend that you fertilize them weekly, using water-soluble fertilizers like SCHULTZ or Jack’s Classic (J.R. Peters). Water soluble fertilizers are readily taken up by the plants, through foliage and roots, and stimulate strong and magnificent foliage and blooms.
Controlling Problems in the Garden – Is your yard being invaded by insects, diseases, weeds, or varmints? Our Garden Center has remedies to solve the problem in a timely and efficient fashion. Whether it’s Japanese Beetles or Black Spot invading your roses; ants, fleas or ticks infesting your backyard oasis; weeds inundating your garden beds; deer, rabbits or voles destroying your plants. Whatever your situation, we’ll do our best to find a solution for you!
Mulching for Summer Root Protection – Mulch protects the plants’ root system from heat and helps hold moisture at the root zone during summer dry spells. If you haven’t already applied a fresh layer of mulch this spring, NOW is the time! Both newly planted and existing plants greatly benefit from being mulched in. Our garden center offers a great selection of premium bulk and/or bagged mulches for pick up or delivery.
For the Birds – Keep your feeders full this summer and you’ll be treated to a vast variety of birds. Nectar for Hummingbirds, oranges for Orioles, mealworms for Bluebirds, suet for Woodpeckers, black oil sunflower for Grossbeaks and other songbirds, as well as mixes with nuts and berries to keep finches, wrens, woodpeckers and many others frequenting your yard. Birds may supplement up to 10-20% of their daily summer intake from feeders. Better feeds, like Wild Delight, fortify their feeds with essential vitamins and minerals that help keep our feathered friends healthy! Plus, you can take advantage of the Wild Delight Frequent Buyer Program. Stop in and browse our great selection of bird baths, houses and feeders to make your outdoor living space a haven for your feathered friends.
