As we welcome June, we can only hope that the weather and temperatures will be more stable and seasonal. May was a roller coaster with both. Plants, just like people, have difficulty acclimating to such wildly changing conditions. The one thing that is evident through it all is that we’re still woefully behind in rainfall. Even established plants need supplemental watering. Bucks County is -4.66” below normal rainfall for 2026. It’s the 7th driest spring in the past 132 years of recording by https://www.drought.gov/states/pennsylvania/county/Bucks.
Lawns are looking great so far. Healthy turf should be mowed at least once a week, and often twice during periods of rapid growth. Do not let the grass get so tall that mowing leaves clumps, which can smother the turf below. If clumps do form, collect them or break them up with a blower or rake. As summer heat sets in, adjust your mowing practices by raising the mower deck to 3½–4½ inches. Because our lawns are made up of cool-season grasses, root growth slows when soil temperatures rise above 80 degrees, making the turf more vulnerable to heat stress. A higher mowing height leaves more leaf surface to shade and protect the crowns.
Lawn Depot Garden Center is your one stop shop for all things lawn and garden. Inside you’ll find all the staples you need: seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, tools, gardening equipment, wildlife management and birding. Outside in the Nursery you’ll find a vast selection of annuals (flowers and vegetables) in many sizes, perennials, shrubs and trees that you’ll surely want for your landscape beds, pots, window boxes, and planters. As always, our friendly and knowledgeable staff are ready to assist you with all your lawn, landscape and gardening questions. The store is open every day, M – F 8-6, Sat. 8-5, Sun 9-3 through June 28th. Summer hours will begin June 29th. Be sure to check our website for current hours in July & August.
Lawn Depot Turf Management continues to be very busy this month, with our regular late spring feeding, weed control and grub prevention activities. In addition to the continued spring activities, our Turf Management group will be doing lawn evaluations and making recommendations for fall seeding of lawns in need of upgrading, and we’ll continue to evaluate new customers’ lawns for both regular maintenance applications and special applications (core aeration, liming, seeding, etc.).
New: Flea and Tick, Mosquito Management
Lawn Depot is now offering professional flea, tick, and mosquito management services to help make your yard more comfortable and enjoyable throughout the summer. Our targeted treatments are designed to reduce nuisance insects around lawns, landscaped areas, patios, play areas, and other outdoor spaces where families and pets spend time. Regular applications can help limit mosquito activity and reduce flea and tick pressure during peak season, giving you added protection and peace of mind before cookouts, gatherings, and everyday backyard use. Call 215-348-5553 or visit www.lawndepotinc.com to ask about flea, tick, and mosquito programs or to evaluate and quote you a price for the service(s) you’re seeking.
Mother Nature has dealt us a mixed hand so far, this growing season. The volatile weather patterns have created unwanted stress with many of our young and newly planted annuals, perennials, and other landscape plantings. This is certainly not a year for “plant and forget”. Regular supplemental care is not recommended, it’s required. Maximize the beauty and productivity of annuals and vegetables with regular watering and fertilizer applications. We welcome your inquiries and are ready to help you find the best solutions for all your gardening needs. Remember to keep up to date on our store specials and sales via our website, Facebook and Instagram. Links to our social media pages are available on the home page of our website (www.lawndepotinc.com). We look forward to seeing you at our Summer Kick Off: Lawn & Garden Sweet Sale-abration and throughout the summer, whether for supplies, plants, advice, or just to say hello!
